You might wonder, why my first article after the Finest Spirits Festival is not about the FSF. Well, it kind of is because I remembered there, that I wanted to taste the Ardbeg AnOa, and so I got myself a sample on my way out and to the train. Which then was delayed, but that’s another story. So here’s the first article regarding the FSF, more will follow in the next days and weeks! And there are some very interesting stories as well as tastings! So stay tuned!
Ardbeg An oa
Distillery: Ardbeg (Islay)
Age: n.a.s.
Cask: not disclosed
Alcohol: 46 %
Nose: There’s iodine, quite medical overall. But also leather, some lemon and ginger.
Palate: Little bit of oak wood, of course, some peat and smoke (but not as heavy as usually), there’s even some Toffee, ginger and honey, maybe some highland heather.
Finish: The finish is quite long and warming.
Overall: Well, it’s not an Ardbeg. Well, it is an Ardbeg. It’s not your typically Ardbeg. It’s kind of a less Ardbeggy-Ardbeg. It’s nice, but I like the Uigeadail and the Corryvreckan more. If you never had an Ardbeg, it might be a good idea to start with this one. Not with the other I mentioned…
